My Story

Feeling the Emotion, Seeing the Detail

Firstly, I’d just like to say a genuine thank you—truly. The fact you’ve taken a moment to get to know a little about me means more than you might think.

I grew up in a farming family, which basically meant my childhood was equal parts fresh air, freedom, and hay in places hay really shouldn’t be. Long, lazy days were spent clambering over haystacks, dodging straw bales, and celebrating the end of harvest like it was the countryside’s version of a music festival—just with fewer wellies and more tractors. That feeling of running wild through fields, with birds gossiping away in the hedgerows, is something that’s stayed with me ever since.

Despite all that, following my siblings into farming life wasn’t quite my calling. Instead, I took a slightly less muddy path into Stage and Film Make-up, which led me all the way to New Zealand. There, I spent three fantastic years working at Avalon Studios—proof that swapping wellies for make-up brushes was, in fact, a solid life choice.

Returning to England in the early ’90s, I traded film sets for family life and became a mum to three wonderful children. The next twenty years saw me navigating the retail world—less glamourous but rewarding all the same.

Then came a plot twist: one divorce later, I took a leap of faith and in 2014 moved to Cornwall. Back to the countryside and surrounded once again by nature I rediscovered my love of creating.

When 2021 brought along the pandemic, my now new husband and I found ourselves embracing lockdown life. Somewhere between baking, pacing, and wondering what day it was, I stumbled across watercolour tutorials online. And just like that, my childhood love for art came flooding back. Soon, I was happily spending evenings painting animals—often from photos kindly supplied by friends who now couldn’t escape me saying, “Ooo, I could paint that!”

Later that year, I decided to be brave (or slightly reckless—it’s a fine line) and stepped into the world of public art, offering pet portrait commissions. I kept learning, experimenting with watercolour and coloured pencil, and by December, my website was live. In 2022, I took things a step further and began showcasing my work at local craft and artisan events across Devon and Cornwall—equal parts exciting and mildly terrifying, but entirely worth it.

And now, 2026 brings another new chapter. Due to family commitments, I’ve relocated to Norfolk and am once again in the process of “getting myself out there”—this time along the beautiful North Norfolk coast. New place, same passion… and hopefully slightly less hay!
